Today's episode: "With a Great Podcast Comes Great Responsibility"
For this episode of YAHNY, we are joined by Vincent from The Robots Pajamas - nerd blogger extraordinaire. Check him out for a variety of nerdy things, including the latest toy news, "nerd rage," and a number of cosplay pics (which may or may not be healthy). But more pointedly, he's a fellow film enthusiast AND he's a got a killer podcast - The Robots Pajama Party.
To take advantage of Vincent's specialized skill set of movie knowledge, our topic du jour is SUPERHERO MOVIES. As a genre (or maybe even sub-genre), superhero movies seem to be very nearly everywhere these days. From remakes of Superman and Spiderman, to the conclusion of The Nolan's Batman series and whatever you'd like to call the collective of Avengers' movies - the people are in love with these (often mutated or alien) do-gooders. And Hollywood loves the amount of money these movies make.
Just an approximation
We are going to try to take a step back and discuss this genre which cannot really be ignored. What makes for a good/ bad superhero movie? Can superhero movies be considered "art" (for better or worse)? Why do superhero movies mainly come out of America? All these topics and more! Plus, Agust is up to his old tricks again. Hope you enjoy! And one more thing:

Today's Episode: "Over & Under"
For our current episode of You Ain't Heard Nothing Yet, you will come to learn quite a bit more about how we think about movies. And what better way to understand a film critic, or any movie lover, than by hearing what movies they feel are overrated and underrated? We're going to attempt here to be as forthcoming as possible while also being as reasonable as possible, because far too many critics have this air of superiority that is extremely off-putting. It's also something that I think hurts film criticism as a whole. We hope to continue to promote communication among all fans of cinema, as much as it can be facilitated through a film blog. So please listen and enjoy, even if you disagree - and chances are that you'll disagree with at least a couple things in this episode. We also will define an important term in the lexicon of our critical theory. Finally, as per usual, we end with a very special (and sleazy) Bourbon. Cheers!

Some of the movies that mean the most to us are the ones we loved as children. However, sometimes rewatching some of those childhood movies as an adult can lead to horrific discoveries like "Hey, this isn't very good at all!" or "Watching this now, I should have guessed Rosebud was the sled."Often the reason for these movies not being able to hold up stems back to a differentiation between "kids" movies and "family" movies. And this distinction is the focus of this episode. Let's get this show on the road!
Podcast Ombudsman:
-I did not find a link to the poll I mentioned regarding Kermit the Frog and The Tramp. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just means that it doesn't exist in reality.
-In Fraggle Rock, there are these races: the Fraggles, the Doozers, and the Gorgs.
-At Jim Henson's memorial service, Big Bird sings "Bein' Green"

A funny thing happened on the way to record our latest podcast....

A friend of ours ended up crashing our party. Well, him and an assortment of libations...Right...Far be it for us to stand in the way of cultivating friendships.
Come to the end of the night, we're a little sad that we have to reschedule ANOTHER time for recording the podcast (a too frequent trend). That's when it hits us: we're sitting here with a Master of Badass Cinema; why not record the podcast NOW? Brilliant!
Here is the product: a shorter, special episode where we cut right to the chase. Namely, badass action movies. ENJOY!

The long wait is over: here is the latest episode of our podcast. It's WAY overdue, unfortunately. Actually, it was recorded around early November (=yikes). But hey, get over it.
For this episode we return to horror movies. Ya know, since Halloween....is...right around the corner.....yeah. We discuss some of our favorite movies of the genre, why we feel they are hands down better than a lot of others, and how horror movies can be extremely profound. Also, we address some reader questions. How exciting! So if you have any random questions or topic suggestions, send 'em on in. And two more lucky people get the coveted Glass of Bourbon poured in their honor.
On a technical note, it is obviously clear at this point that iTunes is censoring our podcast. Our ideas must be too far out there, too radical. At least that's why I'd like to think we haven't been approved for a few months. Sigh....Until we get that worked out, you can manually subscribe to our podcast in iTunes via our podcast RSS. Or you can continue to listen to it or download it here.
Cheers!
[Edit: The film mentioned that James Whale directed is called The Old Dark House. So there.]

We know you've all be anxiously awaiting the latest episode from our podcast. Well, REJOICE - here it is! For this edition, we decided to talk about one of the most popular shows to be associated with PBS. No, it's not the Lawrence Welk Show. I'm of course talking about At the Movies.
I have written previously about the show, but we decided to dedicate this episode to the show and its hosts, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. We recorded in a different location this time, which is presumably better than my living room. It's also longer than last time, clocking in at about 1.5 hours. And yes, you HAVE to listen to the whole thing straight through. If you have any thoughts on the episode, substantial or technical, let us know.

Here is our very first podcast. This whole endeavor is very much a work in progress, especially the ins and outs of setting up feeds and all that jazz. Also, we're still trying to find the right setting to record our sessions. Accordingly, if you should happen to hear the occasional passing vehicle, just ignore it - unless it adds to the vibe of the show.
The basic format will start with something of an introduction, followed by a couple pieces of movie news that happen to strike our fancy. Then we will launch into the main topic for the episode. Finally, we'll end each show with a Glass of Bourbon in honor of someone due such a magnificent honor. Here on our blog, we typically restrict the recipients to great, hardworking actors who have not received the level of respect we feel they deserve. On our podcasts, though, we'll be toasting to a variety of filmmakers, especially those related to the topic of that day's show.
For our first episode, we decided to talk about a genre of film that is very close to our hearts - zombie movies. We'd hope that even if you don't like zombie movies (for some God-forsaken reason), that you'd still give a listen and then write to us about how we've opened your heart and mind to a wonderful new aspect of art and cinema......or, about how we're wrong. And for our first on-air Glass of Bourbon, we drink to the wonderful director, George A. Romero. As I said, this is all a work in progress. So if you have any suggestions, please send them our way. Requests? Send them, too. We may even start to incorporate questions from our readers/listeners, so keep that in mind as well. We hope you enjoy!
